Bonfire Rally

What another great weekend, I would like to thank all the rally marshals and everyone else who helped in making the weekend the success it was. The weather was on our side for a change, which helped to make the Saturday night go as well as it did. The firework display just gets better ever year. There was a good response in the guy competition, well done to E.T. who won and to Homer Simpson who got runner up and to all the other kids who entered well done. The Food was excellent as usual but you had to be quick to get any as it soon sold out. (I don’t think anyone had any tea that night) Special thanks to Geoff & Carol Duke for their hard work over the years as they have decided it is time for someone else to take over the reins.

I would like to take this opportunity to report some unfortunate events that occurred, namely damage to one of the Electric Points, the theft of a waste master & awning poles and ralliers throwing bags of rubbish into the site waste bins that were out of bounds. This behaviour threatens the use of rallying venues and is not what is expected on North Yorkshire Rallies.

Sunday 16th January dawned dry and sunny with a refreshing breeze. Around 40 people and I met up with Brian Jack at Somerfield’s car park at Guisborough. I set off at a brisk pace after a 5 minute break at the loos for the humans. It was then a level walk along a disused railway track where my friend Woody joined us before a steep climb up the hillside. Some level walking and then a short water stop. Ken McKie gave a vote of thanks to Brian and Joan for organising the walk and ordering such good weather for us. Congratulations also to Brian and Joan who just became grandparents this week to Holly Lauren who arrived slightly earlier than expected, our best wishes to them all (hope to see them on the rally field soon, Brian will soon show Holly the ropes or in the case of Danby, the water pipe!) We continued on up hill to some superb views of Guisborough and the North Sea, it was then down hill through the forests and back to the car park.

It was then time to say goodbye and make our various journeys home. Bath time for me left me snowy white again and looking forward to this years rally season. My thanks to Brian and Joan for a good start to the season.
